Black Lake was created in early 2011 by local Iraqi businessmen and highly experienced oilfield technical managers. The result was the start-up of a precision, technical oil and gas support company that began procuring in the second quarter of 2011. The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Natural Resources (“MNR”) approved Black Lake’s headquarters and registration in Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq, in late 2011 and the company is now included in the MNR tendering process.
The company’s headquarters are located in the Ankawa area of Erbil, while the company’s 1,600m2 facility lies on New Kirkuk Road, 7 kilometres south of Erbil.
Black Lake is focused on providing the highest quality service, supported by leading industry professionals, in the fields of Instrumentation, Inspection, Welding and Fabrication, Machining and Motor Rewinding as the core business areas. Moving forward, the company plans to develop new product lines that will come online in early 2013 while discussions are ongoing with prominent international firms to develop Joint Ventures that will support this movement.
The organization has recently acquired the following licenses: API Monogram 5CT and 7-1, API Q1, ISO/TS 29001, ISO 9001:2008, Grant Prideco and LEEA. This supports Black Lake’s commitment to quality, in line with the Quality Assurance Management System that was developed under the guidance of the various governing bodies by Black Lake’s divisional managers.
The approach Black Lake applies is to be proactive with its clients and potential clients in order to continuously satisfy their needs. This is managed by an internal reporting system and client surveys that provide constant awareness of clients’ current and upcoming requirements. At Black Lake, we make it our business to know what the client may need so that we can supply it on short notice. Our newly developed “Soft Tracking System” (“STS”) allows us to update clients as per their inspection, calibration and certification policy requirements. It provides a timeline as to when we can supply the service, to fit in with our clients’ schedules, and is proof of our commitment to true service. This software development redefines how service should be, and gives Black Lake a firm advantage over its competitors.
Black Lake Management is keyed on fast paced growth. The main targets for expansion will be South America and additional MENA Countries. New product lines will come online and be developed by the specific divisional heads of those lines. We feel that the company can fill a large portion of the services not currently provided correctly in Country, but also see the need for the same services abroad using our approach. The team is ready for the challenges and rewards of the growth scheme and looks forward to updating this development in the mid-term.
